This installation was created to honor the dedication, sacrifice, commitment, teamwork and strength displayed by Le Bonheur staff during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Japanese folklore, the crane is a mystical creature believed to live 1,000 years and represents longevity and good fortune. Legend says that when someone folds 1,000 paper cranes they are granted a wish or their prayers are answered, which has widely made folding 1,000 paper cranes a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times. As I folded these cranes I wrote the names of each of the nearly 200 departments at Le Bonheur inside the cranes. I included words of hope, strength and acknowledgment of the difficulties being faced.
